My artwork creates a dialogue within our own selves and the human race about the five senses we are born with. Many of us take our senses for granted and sometimes are unsafe around dangerous environments. We never actually stop and ask ourselves, "What if tomorrow I were to wake without sight?" or "If this were to go wrong and 1 were to lose my sight, I would never be able to see my loved ones ever again." Once we think through and picture the rest of our lives without an important sense for us, we began to fear. Fear of not being able to taste your mom's food, watch your baby sister grow up, or listen to your favorite music.

With that being said, our five senses are a precious beauty for us, and is something we ought to treasure and take great care of. But also, when we lose one of our senses it's something that has been ripped apart from us and causes pain. That is why my art piece has a gruesome side to it. Inside the eye sockets you see a golden eyeball covered in blood as well as a pointy needle going through the wooden ear, and the rusted gold covered chain wrapped around me as! stand on an uncomfortable posture.

As I searched in depth why this concept resonated with me, I realized that it is tied to a phase in my life. I have lost people both physically and emotionally recently and have disregarded my own self and have not cared for my own sacred body. I've taken it for granted and it's been harming me mentally, physically, and emotionally.

Like my piece, it emphasis the importance of our senses but within the 5 senses I also have my own scale. My most to least important senses are: sight, hearing, taste, smell, and touch. When looking at the art piece's extensions you can see that it mirrors the level of importance each sense has for me.
